US Court Orders Reopening of 2027 Diversity Visa Lottery

A federal judge, Jinsook Ohta, has mandated that the U.S. State Department reopen the 2027 Green Card lottery program. This follows a lawsuit filed by Red Eagle Law against Secretary of State Marco Rubio after the administration failed to launch the application period as scheduled. Under the court's order, the government must publicly announce the registration dates and details by October 15, with a 30-day window for submissions. The lottery, established by the 1990 Immigration and Nationality Act, provides up to 55,000 people worldwide with the opportunity to obtain permanent residency in the United States.
