President Tebboune orders urgent measures to protect purchasing power and boost infrastructure

President Abdelmadjid Tebboune chaired a Council of Ministers meeting focused on market regulation, transport infrastructure, and water security. To tackle inflation, the President ordered a legislative framework to regulate commercial intermediaries and an investigation into monopolistic practices by meat importers. Stabilization strategies include storing local production surpluses, capping profit margins on staple goods, and implementing digital monitoring systems. Regarding economic infrastructure, the President highlighted the strategic importance of the phosphate terminal at Annaba port and the development of the railway linking Laghouat, El-Menia, and In Salah. On the water front, the government will prioritize connecting seawater desalination plants in Chlef, Mostaganem, and Tlemcen, while enforcing strict regulations on well drilling permits to protect groundwater resources.
