Port Reorganization in Algeria: Private Vehicle Imports Moving to Djen Djen

By the end of 2026, the importation of vehicles by private operators will shift from the port of Mostaganem to the port of Djen Djen in Jijel. Minister of the Interior, Local Authorities and Transport, Saïd Sayoud, confirmed that this measure aligns with President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s directive to reserve Mostaganem port exclusively for public sector imports. The decision follows a series of consultations aimed at optimizing the national port system through specialized infrastructure usage. Concurrently, a 3 billion dinar modernization project is underway at Mostaganem port to expand its cargo and container capacity. The move leverages the growing capacity of Djen Djen, which saw an 18% increase in vehicle handling during 2025.
