Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov criticized Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Thursday in Baku for rejecting a fuel agreement reached between Moscow and Washington. Lavrov stated that Kiev’s continued strikes on Russian oil refineries serve as a direct defiance of President Donald Trump, who publicly supported the deal aimed at curbing global diesel prices. The Russian minister claimed that Zelensky rebuffed the American proposal to halt refinery attacks, instead demanding Patriot missile systems to further target Russia's energy sector. The agreement, following an October 9 call between Putin and Trump, includes Russian diesel shipments to international markets in exchange for U.S. sanctions waivers effective until April 2027. While Moscow maintains it is open to honest negotiations, Lavrov accused the Ukrainian leadership of refusing any constructive compromise and prioritizing military escalation over diplomatic solutions.
