The Vatican announced on Wednesday that medical tests confirmed Pope Leo XIV has lung cancer, following a surgical procedure on Tuesday to remove a mass from his lung. The Holy See stated that the operation was successful. Surgeons removed the lower lobe of the right lung after biopsy results confirmed an adenocarcinoma, matching pre-operative suspicions. The surgical intervention lasted approximately 90 minutes, within a total of three hours spent in the operating theater. All of the Pope's official engagements have been canceled until October 20 to allow for his recovery.
