African Union commends Algeria for complete landmine clearance

The African Union’s Peace and Security Council (PSC) has lauded Algeria for its achievement in fully clearing its territory of anti-personnel mines. During its 1371st meeting, the Council encouraged the country to share its valuable experience and technical expertise with other African nations through bilateral or AU-led frameworks. This recognition is part of the broader efforts toward the 'Silencing the Guns in Africa by 2030' roadmap. Additionally, the Council praised the Algerian government for hosting the 2026 edition of 'Africa Amnesty Month' on September 14-15, 2026, in Algiers, which focused on promoting sustainable peace and collaborative strategies for demining and controlling small arms.
