Algeria denounces the opening of a Colombian embassy in occupied Jerusalem

Algeria has formally condemned the Colombian government's decision to establish an embassy in occupied Jerusalem. In an official statement, the Algerian Foreign Ministry described the move as an unacceptable act that violates the legal and historical status of the city and defies international law. The ministry warned that this decision undermines the two-state solution and threatens regional stability, calling on the international community to take immediate action against such illegal policies. This diplomatic shift follows the results of the presidential elections in Colombia last June. Previously, in May 2024, the former president Gustavo Petro had severed diplomatic ties with the occupation in response to the war in the Gaza Strip.
