Djanet Hosts International Rock Art Festival to Preserve Tassili's Legacy

The city of Djanet is hosting the first International Rock Art Festival alongside the second international meeting on the preservation of the Tassili N'Ajjer rock art sites. Organized by the Ministry of Culture and Arts in collaboration with the African World Heritage Fund, the event reaffirms Algeria's role as a global leader in prehistoric heritage conservation. The Tassili N'Ajjer park alone contains over 2,008 rock art sites, designated as UNESCO World Heritage since 1982. During the opening, Culture Minister Malika Bendouda highlighted the national cultural parks, spanning over a million square kilometers. The scientific meeting brings together experts from 12 countries to discuss modern protection methods, including 3D scanning and artificial intelligence, to mitigate climate-related degradation. The event aims to establish the "Tassili N'Ajjer Declaration," a roadmap for sustainable development and the preservation of desert memory.
