Shin Bet halts direct flights to Morocco citing security concerns
Israel's internal security agency, the Shin Bet, has unilaterally ordered a complete halt to direct flights operated by Israeli airlines—specifically Arkia, Israir, and Sun d'Or—to Morocco. Consequently, ticket sales have been frozen and connections to cities like Marrakech removed. Travelers are now forced to use indirect routes through European hubs. This decision follows a security incident in September involving a co-pilot for a UAE-based carrier, whose past aviation training in Morocco and rejected job application at Royal Air Maroc triggered Israeli concerns. Tel-Aviv implemented this restrictive policy without prior consultation with Moroccan authorities, reflecting a one-sided approach to security protocols.
