Government launches daily price tracking to regulate fruit and vegetable markets

On Tuesday, October 20, Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb met with wholesale market agents to discuss the implementation of a new daily tracking system for the prices and availability of essential goods. This move follows directives issued by the President during the October 18 Council of Ministers to ensure transparency and supply chain traceability. The government plans to utilize decentralized monitoring overseen by local governors, potential price caps on staples, strategic storage of local production surpluses, and stricter regulation of intermediaries. An investigation into meat importers has also been initiated. While the government aims to support consumer purchasing power, specific details regarding the implementation timeline, scope of affected products, and enforcement measures have not yet been announced.
