Researchers from the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences have reported the discovery of dozens of water-rich deposits on the Martian surface. The finding stems from eight years of data collected by the FREND neutron spectrometer aboard the ExoMars-TGO probe. This long-term monitoring allowed for the creation of a highly detailed map, identifying thirty new water-bearing locations. Furthermore, the team increased the estimated water content in the Valles Marineris canyon to 30% after detecting new hydrated mineral deposits, a significant refinement of the initial results published in 2020.
