On November 19, the criminal chamber of the Supreme Court will examine the 'Gold and 1100 Billion' case, involving 83 defendants, 22 of whom are in custody. The case concerns wholesale merchants, importers, and individuals involved in the precious metals trade. The court will rule on the appeals filed by both the public prosecutor and the defense, with the possibility of upholding previous decisions or referring the case to a different judicial panel. Previously, the Algiers Court had upheld the rulings issued by the Economic and Financial Penal Pole, which included prison sentences ranging from one to twenty years, alongside the confiscation of assets and various fines. The penalties targeted intermediaries, national bank employees, jewelers, and holders of fraudulent business registrations, while some individuals were acquitted.
