Investigations by Citizen Lab and Confiant, released on October 15, have exposed the Israeli firm Discover-Tech for misusing global advertising networks to monitor hundreds of millions of users. By embedding trackers or spyware within standard advertisements hosted on platforms like Google, Yandex, and Comcast, the company could compromise devices just by loading a webpage. The research indicates that these ads appeared on over 120,000 websites and targeted sensitive organizations, including the UN, NATO, and various media outlets. Links were identified between Discover-Tech and the notorious spyware developer Candiru. Following these findings, major tech companies, including Google, have terminated their relationship with Discover-Tech, highlighting significant security flaws within the global digital advertising ecosystem.
