At the 77th session of the UNHCR Executive Committee in Geneva, Algeria's permanent representative, Idris Latreche, reiterated that humanitarian aid for Sahrawi refugees is a fundamental right, not a charitable act. He emphasized that resolving their situation requires addressing the root causes of their displacement from a non-self-governing territory, rather than engaging in political maneuvers. Latreche underscored the transparency of the Tindouf camps, which are routinely visited by international organizations. Addressing the Moroccan delegation's call for alternative solutions, the Algerian diplomat dismissed their rhetoric as 'opportunistic,' arguing that the party responsible for the conflict should not be lecturing the international community on sustainable solutions.
