The mild autumn weather has drawn many people to forests for picnics and camping. However, irresponsible habits, such as leaving embers burning after a meal, have sparked concerns about potential forest fires, especially under windy conditions. Several incidents, where small fires were narrowly averted by alert citizens and forest guards, serve as a reminder of the devastation experienced in the country's eastern provinces last August. Fouad Laala, founder of the "Green Algeria" initiative, emphasizes that safeguarding nature requires individual responsibility. He stresses the necessity of completely extinguishing fires, avoiding the disposal of cigarette butts in nature, and following safety protocols. He further calls for increased public awareness, reinforced monitoring, and the prompt reporting of any smoke or fire outbreaks to the relevant authorities.
