Medjez El Bagar Dam case: Verdict scheduled for November 10
The Algiers Economic and Financial Penal Court has concluded the trial of former Minister of Water Resources, Arezki Berraki, and others involved in the "Medjez El Bagar" dam project in Guelma. The court scheduled the verdict for November 10. During the closing arguments, the defense team asserted the innocence of all defendants, citing a General Inspectorate of Finance report confirming that the project achieved its intended economic goals. Lawyers argued that the contract amendments were made in compliance with existing laws. Regarding the former minister, the defense emphasized that he could not be held accountable for documents signed while he was in prison or after he had left his position at the agency. The defense requested full acquittal on charges including public fund embezzlement and misuse of office.
