The UN General Assembly's Fourth Committee has adopted a resolution, backed by 152 countries, which reaffirms the status of Western Sahara as a decolonization issue. The resolution underscores the inalienable right of the Sahrawi people to self-determination and independence, in line with the UN Charter and resolution 1514. The committee called for continued monitoring and a report on the implementation of this decision for the next session, while acknowledging the mandate of MINURSO. Sidi Mohamed Omar, the Polisario Front's representative to the UN, described the resolution as a strong rejection of efforts to undermine the legal framework of the Sahrawi cause.
