Moroccan authorities block French officials from visiting Sahrawi prisoner Naama Asfari

Prison authorities at L'oudaya jail in Marrakech denied entry to the mayor of the French town of Ivry-sur-Seine, Philippe Bouyssou, and Claire Delmotte, who sought to visit Sahrawi civilian prisoner Naama Asfari. After waiting at the prison entrance and presenting their passports, the French officials were refused access without any explanation. The visit was intended to assess the health and humanitarian conditions of Asfari, an honorary citizen of Ivry-sur-Seine and a member of the "Gdim Izik" group. Currently held in custody, Asfari has undertaken two hunger strikes this year, lasting a total of 55 days, to demand improved conditions and the protection of his basic rights.
