Tunisia is experiencing a notable drop in the number of tourists from Algeria. In September 2026, arrivals fell by 40.1%, with 290,678 visitors recorded compared to 485,201 the previous year—a decrease of nearly 195,000 people. This follows an August decline of 32.9%, contributing to an overall 6.8% reduction in arrivals over the first nine months of the year. Analysts point to recent regulatory changes by the Bank of Algeria, which now requires travelers to use international payment cards instead of cash for their 750-euro tourism allowance, as a contributing factor. Furthermore, the growth of domestic tourism in Algeria, fueled by new hotel projects, is reshaping travel patterns. The Tunisian tourism sector is also grappling with a 17.6% decrease in visitors from Libya during the same month.
