Algeria prioritizes Sudan crisis at annual AU-UN consultative meeting
During the 20th annual consultative meeting between the African Union and the United Nations, Algeria highlighted the urgent need to address the conflict in Sudan. Emphasizing the humanitarian catastrophe and widespread infrastructure damage caused by four years of fighting, the Algerian delegation warned against the regional risks posed by external military and financial interference. The discussions stressed the necessity of a ceasefire and the protection of civilians. Reflecting on the August 2026 AU Peace and Security Council field visit to Khartoum, Algeria called for a unified international effort to facilitate post-conflict reconstruction and support a Sudanese-led political transition process.
