Algeria Expands Pharmaceutical Exports and Targets 2026 for National Essential Medicine List

Algeria is stepping up efforts to expand its pharmaceutical industry's footprint in global markets through a series of administrative, customs, and banking facilitations. The Ministry of Pharmaceutical Industry is coordinating with various institutions to streamline export procedures and assist local companies in accessing international trade events. Regulatory efforts are also underway to ease the registration of pharmaceutical products destined for foreign markets. Simultaneously, the country is working on its first national list of essential medicines, slated for completion by late 2026, aimed at bolstering health sovereignty and prioritizing critical treatments. Currently, over 230 local manufacturing facilities satisfy 84% of domestic demand. To ensure long-term stability, the government is prioritizing the reduction of reliance on imported raw materials through strategic projects, such as the local production of antibiotics and oncology treatments.
