At the UNHCR Executive Committee meeting in Geneva, Algeria highlighted its five-decade-long humanitarian role in hosting Sahrawi refugees. Algeria's permanent representative to the UN in Geneva, Idris Latreche, rejected Moroccan claims regarding sustainable solutions, calling it hypocritical given Morocco's role as the occupying power. Latreche reaffirmed the Sahrawi people's right to self-determination as the root cause of their displacement. Furthermore, he emphasized the transparency of the Tindouf camps, which regularly host UN agencies and international NGOs. Algeria cautioned against the political instrumentalization of humanitarian aid, stressing that international support is a fundamental right, not charity. The Algerian delegation urged the international community to address the political causes of the conflict alongside humanitarian efforts.
