Algeria: Over 42,000 Hectares Reforested Under Green Dam Program
From 2023 to 2026, Algeria successfully reforested 42,376 hectares as part of its initiative to expand and rehabilitate the Green Dam. The General Directorate of Forests reported that these efforts also focused on supporting rural farmers by planting 1.4 million olive trees and 1.1 million carob trees, along with almond, fig, and other fruit varieties. Looking ahead to the 2026-2027 season, authorities plan to cover nearly 48,000 hectares with the planting of 38.8 million trees, including forest and pastoral species. These measures are designed to restore ecosystems and preserve biodiversity, particularly in regions previously affected by wildfires and environmental degradation.
