MC Alger seeks to rekindle its 'remontada' spirit against Enugu Rangers

MC Alger is looking to its storied continental history for inspiration ahead of the second leg of the CAF Champions League second preliminary round. After a 2-0 first-leg loss to Nigeria's Enugu Rangers, the Algiers-based club prepares to host the return match this Friday at Ali Ammar Stadium, aiming for a dramatic turnaround. The club has a legacy of overturning difficult deficits, most notably in 1976, when they eliminated the same Nigerian opponents in the semi-finals before securing their maiden African title against Hafia Conakry. Other historical comebacks include the 1980 qualification against Stella d'Abidjan inspired by Lakhdar Belloumi, the 2007 recovery attempt against Kwara United, the 2011 victory over Dynamos, and the record-breaking 9-0 win against AS Otohô in 2018.
