French activist Claude Mangin barred from entering Morocco to visit imprisoned husband

French activist Claude Mangin-Asfari was denied entry into Morocco on Monday at Marrakech airport while attempting to visit her husband, Naâma Asfari, a Sahrawi activist detained in connection with the Gdim Izik case. While the Moroccan authorities permitted her companions—Ivry-sur-Seine mayor Philippe Bouyssou and city councilor Claire Delmotte—to enter the country, Mangin was blocked, continuing a pattern of denied visitation rights that has persisted since January 2019. The incident highlights the ongoing plight of Naâma Asfari, who previously held a 55-day hunger strike demanding the implementation of UN recommendations, including the Committee against Torture’s call for the release of the Gdim Izik detainees.
