French activist Claude Mangin was denied entry to Morocco at Marrakech airport on Monday, preventing her from visiting her husband, Sahrawi political prisoner Naâma Asfari. While the mayor of Ivry-sur-Seine, Philippe Bouyssou, and a municipal councilor accompanying her were permitted to enter, Mangin was ordered to leave. This incident marks a continuation of the access ban imposed on her since January 2019 regarding her husband, who was imprisoned following the Gdeïm Izik case. The UN Committee against Torture has previously called for the release of Asfari and his fellow detainees, citing an unfair trial. Despite the prisoners' repeated hunger strikes to demand better conditions and the implementation of international rulings, Moroccan authorities continue to block family visits. Human rights organizations remain critical of the ongoing restrictions and the lack of adherence to UN recommendations regarding the treatment of Sahrawi detainees.
