Algiers: Iconic Safir Hotel and El-Mouggar Hall Undergo Restoration
Algiers is currently undergoing a significant renovation project to restore its historic landmarks. The Safir Hotel, formerly known as Aletti, is being rehabilitated to modernize its 137 rooms and suites while maintaining its architectural prestige. The Minister of Tourism, Houria Meddahi, has mandated an accelerated work schedule, including a 3x8 rotation system, to ensure the project meets high-quality standards on time. The hotel holds historical significance for having hosted international icons like Nelson Mandela and Charlie Chaplin, alongside renowned Algerian artists. Simultaneously, the city is focusing on the El-Mouggar Hall, a staple of local cinema and culture. As a hub that defined the artistic landscape for several generations, its preservation is considered essential to honoring the collective memory and cultural heritage of the Algerian capital.
