French Senator Pascal Savoldelli has formally questioned the Foreign Ministry over the imprisonment of Sahrawi activist Naama Asfari, held in Morocco since November 2010. The senator highlighted the UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention’s call for his immediate release and the Committee Against Torture’s findings that his confessions were obtained under duress. He also drew attention to the ongoing restrictions on Asfari's French wife, Claude Mangin, who has been denied visitation rights since 2019 and was turned away upon arrival in Morocco in October 2026. Savoldelli further criticized the refusal to allow the mayor of Ivry-sur-Seine to visit the prisoner. He is now urging the French government to take diplomatic action to uphold the rights of its citizen and ensure compliance with UN recommendations.
