Red meat: The government tackles market irregularities
Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb chaired an interministerial meeting to address the commercialization of red meat, following presidential orders aimed at regulating essential consumer goods and protecting citizens' purchasing power. The session, involving government ministers and representatives of trade unions and meat industry federations, focused on ensuring sufficient supply and accessible regulated prices. This meeting follows the President's mandate issued on October 18, ordering an inquiry into suspected market monopolization by certain importers. The President pointed out the inconsistency in pricing between imported and local meat and the unjustified price gaps across different regions, calling for new regulations to control intermediaries, curb speculation, and stabilize distribution channels.
