The Finance and Budget Committee met to review the proposed 2027 budget for the water sector, featuring a presentation by Minister of Hydraulics Lounes Bouzegza. Addressing challenges posed by rapid urbanization and increased industrial and agricultural water demand, the Ministry has been allocated commitment authorizations of over 894 billion dinars, a 141% increase from 2026, and payment credits of nearly 697 billion dinars. This funding will support 388 new investment projects and the reassessment of 63 ongoing schemes. Key strategic objectives include the connection of seawater desalination plants in Chlef, Mostaganem, and Tlemcen to the national water network, aimed at ensuring long-term water security.
