COSOB introduces new regulatory framework for green bonds in Algeria

The stock market regulatory authority, COSOB, has implemented regulation 26-01 to establish a formal framework for green bonds in Algeria. By amending existing rules, this initiative seeks to boost capital mobilization for sustainable projects, ranging from renewable energy to circular economy initiatives. Under these new guidelines, companies listing green debt securities on the Algiers Stock Exchange must strictly allocate funds to eligible environmental projects. The regulation mandates that issuers provide a clear roadmap for fund utilization, maintain transparent reporting, and undergo independent external audits. This move aims to align the Algerian financial market with global sustainable finance trends while enhancing investor confidence.
