Tragic road accidents involving children have occurred recently across Algeria, including fatal incidents in Sétif and Algiers, where a 9-year-old pupil was struck by a vehicle. Nabila Farhat, president of the National Association of Professional Driving Instructors, has highlighted the critical need for better training for school bus drivers, emphasizing that transporting children requires specific skills and vigilance. She calls for regular technical inspections of school buses, strict adherence to capacity limits to prevent overcrowding, and a more active role for bus monitors. Furthermore, she stresses that protecting students is a shared responsibility that requires integrating road safety education into schools and families. She advocates for improved coordination between institutions to enforce traffic regulations and safety standards, ensuring that pupils can travel to and from their schools without fear.
