UN: Algeria reaffirms the Sahrawi people's right to self-determination

Addressing the UN Fourth Committee, Algeria reiterated its principled stance supporting the Sahrawi people's right to self-determination. Algeria’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Amar Bendjama, emphasized that Western Sahara remains a pending decolonization case with a well-defined legal status under international law. Bendjama stated that sovereignty belongs solely to the Sahrawi people and stressed that any negotiation process must lead to a fair and lasting solution rather than imposing predetermined outcomes. The diplomat also criticized deals that bypass the rights of peoples and warned against the politicization of humanitarian aid for Sahrawi refugees. He urged the international community to continue providing necessary assistance while working toward a political resolution that ensures regional peace.
