Danish shipping giant Maersk expands footprint in Algerian ports

AP Moller Capital, a subsidiary of the Danish AP Moller Group, has acquired the Singapore-based firm Portek International. This takeover grants the Danish company, affiliated with the shipping giant Maersk, control over infrastructure investments in the port of Béjaïa. Conversely, the French group CMA CGM continues to face obstacles in its expansion plans within Algeria. Despite high-level meetings between CEO Rodolphe Saadé and Algerian officials in June 2025, proposed projects for the management of the port of Oran have yet to materialize. This impasse reflects the broader diplomatic friction between Algiers and Paris, which is increasingly impacting the standing of French commercial interests in the Algerian market.
