In a bid to sharpen focus, manager Roberto De Zerbi has restricted mobile phone use during mealtimes for his Tottenham squad during their Spanish training camp, a move that coincided with the team's first Premier League victory. This culture of peculiar discipline is deeply rooted in football history. Paolo Di Canio famously enforced strict bans at Sunderland, prohibiting ketchup, ice cubes, and singing. Similarly, Jose Mourinho barred Manchester United players from playing 'Pokémon Go' in the lead-up to matches. Other managers have displayed unique quirks: John Toshack denied his Welsh players gravy, Sunderland famously added a 'no space travel' clause to Stefan Schwarz's contract, and Alexander Zorniger discouraged large headphones to avoid players looking ridiculous. Perhaps most controversially, Raymond Domenech reportedly used astrology to influence his selection process for the French national team, excluding players based on their zodiac signs.
