A member of parliament from the National Liberation Front (FLN) in Sétif is facing the potential removal of his parliamentary immunity. The move follows legal proceedings against him regarding charges of forgery and abuse of office. This is the first incident of its kind during the current parliamentary term, as the Sétif court recently postponed the case due to the deputy's status. Under the 2020 Constitution, immunity covers only acts related to parliamentary duties, while legal provisions allow for prosecution in common law cases. Constitutional procedures are currently underway to lift this immunity and allow the judiciary to proceed. This development, occurring shortly after the installation of the National People's Assembly, is not linked to the previous vetting of election candidates conducted by the Independent National Authority for Elections.
