Algeria Launches Extensive National Reforestation Program
The General Directorate of Forests has announced an ambitious reforestation plan for the 2026-2027 season, covering a total area of nearly 48,000 hectares. The project includes planting 38.8 million saplings, consisting of forest, fruit, and pastoral species, to combat desertification and restore biodiversity in affected areas. A significant portion of the initiative focuses on the Green Dam project, which accounts for 34,318 hectares of the total. Implementation will be carried out by both public entities, such as the Rural Engineering Group, and private contractors. Backed by a budget exceeding 75 billion Algerian dinars, the project is scheduled to proceed in phases through 2030, aiming to enhance ecological balance and rural development.
