Tébessa: Discovering the heart of hidden Algeria
Over the course of ten days, we traveled through the wilaya of Tébessa, visiting its 28 municipalities to uncover a lesser-known side of Algeria. From ancient ruins like the Arch of Caracalla and Byzantine walls to diverse landscapes stretching from the High Plateaus to the edge of the Sahara, the region holds immense historical and cultural depth. Based in the capital city at hotels such as Mehaya Palace, Al Ahram, and Al Amir, we experienced local life by frequenting neighborhood cafes and interacting with residents. Our journey through towns like El Kouif, Ouenza, and the oasis of Négrine highlighted the area's rich mining history, rural heritage, and ancient traditions. This expedition emphasizes that Tébessa is a land of memory and contrast, deserving of greater recognition as a unique destination for those seeking to explore the authentic facets of Algeria.
