CAF expands VAR usage to group stages in interclub competitions

The Confederation of African Football has announced that the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) system will be implemented starting from the group stage of both the Champions League and the Confederation Cup this season. According to CAF General Secretary Samson Adamu, the move is designed to modernize officiating and ensure fair play. Previously, VAR was only utilized from the quarter-finals onwards. This updated regulation will impact Algerian clubs competing in the tournaments, specifically MC Alger in the Champions League, and USM Alger and CR Belouizdad in the Confederation Cup, as they will now have the benefit of video review technology throughout their group matches.
