Higher Education: Algeria leads the Arab world in the 2027 QS University Rankings

Algeria has secured the top position in the Arab world and the Maghreb region in the 2027 QS Arab Region University Rankings. The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research announced that 50 national institutions are featured in this year's edition, an increase from 46 the previous year. This growth highlights the expansion of the country's academic base. To qualify for this ranking, universities are evaluated on strict metrics, including scientific output, teaching quality, and employer reputation. The University of Annaba currently leads the national list. These accomplishments follow a trend observed in other global rankings, such as Times Higher Education, and are attributed to the growing influence of Algerian researchers and national reforms focusing on digitalization, student entrepreneurship, and the economic application of scientific research.
