King Felipe VI visits Ceuta amid lack of official Moroccan response

King Felipe VI of Spain, accompanied by Queen Letizia, paid his first visit to Ceuta since becoming King in 2014, with a subsequent visit to Melilla planned. During his stay, the King declared that Ceuta and Melilla are integral parts of Spain and that their sovereignty is not open to negotiation. The visit aims to offer support to the city's residents following the mass border breach last July, which resulted in 141 deaths. The royal couple received the city keys from local government leader Juan Vivas and paid respects to the deceased at the Sidi Embarek Muslim cemetery. While security measures were tightened, the Moroccan government maintained total silence, continuing a trend of avoiding official declarations or specific terminology regarding the status of the two cities.
