A new executive decree published in the Official Gazette outlines updated requirements for the licensing and operation of private schools in Algeria. These institutions are mandated to align their services with national constitutional principles, identity, and values. The regulations strictly prohibit foreign curricula, requiring schools to use only government-approved educational programs and textbooks, with Arabic serving as the primary language of instruction. Among the new requirements, private schools must disclose tuition fees three months prior to the academic year and ensure compliance with hygiene, safety, and accessibility standards for students with special needs. Furthermore, the licensing process includes a mandatory bank guarantee and adherence to the national school map. Eligibility for founders is rigorously defined, and the appointment of a pedagogical director requires at least a bachelor's degree and ten years of professional experience in the education sector.
