Alarm raised over health crisis of Gdeim Izik hunger strikers

The Network of Algerian Journalists in Solidarity with the Sahrawi People has voiced deep concern over the declining health of nine Gdeim Izik political prisoners held in Moroccan jails, who have been on a hunger strike since September 23, 2026. In an October 11 statement, the network demanded their immediate and unconditional release, alongside urgent medical intervention. The organization urged the UN and the United States to step in to prevent a tragedy and to implement previous UN findings regarding arbitrary detention and torture. Simultaneously, international solidarity groups have appealed to global leaders and human rights bodies to intervene to protect the lives and dignity of the detainees, whose cause centers on the Sahrawi people's right to self-determination.
