Local Elections in Algeria: Initial Data on Party Participation

The landscape for the upcoming local elections in Algeria is taking shape as political parties reveal their initial participation figures. The El Bina movement has submitted 600 lists across 61 provinces, while the RND aims to contest 1,200 municipalities. The FFS has registered 165 lists, focusing on its traditional strongholds, and the MSP aims to match its 2021 performance by competing in roughly one-third of the country's municipalities. Meanwhile, other parties, notably the FLN, have yet to confirm their official figures pending the final review of candidate files by the National Independent Election Authority. Political groups remain cautious, awaiting the resolution of appeals and the final outcome of candidacy processing, fearing that last-minute disqualifications could impact their electoral footprint.
