Algeria and 18 countries condemn opening of Colombian embassy in Jerusalem

Algeria and 18 other nations have issued a joint statement strongly condemning Colombia’s decision to open its embassy in Jerusalem. The signatory countries stated that this move contradicts UN Security Council resolutions and undermines international efforts to achieve a just and lasting peace based on the two-state solution. The declaration emphasized that any measure intended to alter the legal or historical status of Jerusalem, which is part of the Palestinian territories occupied since 1967, is null and void with no legal effect. Citing Security Council resolutions 476 and 478 of 1980, the foreign ministers called upon the Colombian government to reverse its decision and adhere to international law, urging them to refrain from actions that infringe upon the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people to establish an independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
