Algeria Announces $71.6 Billion Investment Plan to Expand Hydrocarbon Production by 2030

Algeria is set to invest $71.6 billion by 2030 to strengthen its hydrocarbon sector, as announced by Minister Mohamed Arkab. The plan allocates $52 billion to exploration and production, and $13 billion to refining and petrochemicals, aiming to reach a primary production level of 201 million tons of oil equivalent. A key priority is increasing domestic processing to over 50% of production. Sonatrach has reported 17 new hydrocarbon discoveries since January 2026, collaborating with global partners like Eni, Repsol, and Sinopec. Projects in Hassi Messaoud, Arzew, and Skikda are underway to boost domestic fuel supply amid rising internal demand. During the first nine months of 2026, the sector generated $37.5 billion in export revenue, underscoring the vital role of hydrocarbons in the national economy.
