Losing a job in France: Does it affect residency permits for Algerian citizens?

Losing a job in France does not automatically result in the revocation of a residence certificate for Algerian nationals, who are governed by the 1968 Franco-Algerian agreement. Those holding ten-year certificates are guaranteed automatic renewal. For those with one-year 'employee' certificates, involuntary job loss—such as a layoff or the end of a fixed-term contract—allows for a one-year extension of the work authorization. Resignation does not qualify for this protection. It is recommended to register with France Travail and retain all documentation regarding the end of employment to facilitate the renewal process when the certificate expires.
