Crackdown on solidarity sit-in for Gdeim Izik prisoners in Rabat

Moroccan security forces intervened forcefully this morning in Rabat to disperse a demonstration organized in front of the prison administration office. The sit-in was held to support Sahrawi civilian prisoners from the Gdeim Izik group, who are currently on hunger strike. The forceful dispersal resulted in the arrest of seven Sahrawi students: Hassana Duihi, Ibrahim Babit, Mohamed El Mourabit, Khaled Boufroua, Aziz El Ouhidi, El Houssein Chihab, and Salaheddine Essabar. Initial reports indicate several injuries and fainting cases, including that of activist Menina, mother of prisoner Bachir Boutenguiza. Participants carried the flag of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic and chanted slogans demanding independence and the release of all Sahrawi detainees.
