Biskra: Olive production expected to exceed 230,000 quintals

Agricultural authorities in Biskra province forecast an olive harvest surpassing 230,000 quintals this season, reflecting a notable increase over the previous year. This growth is attributed to the expansion of cultivated land, now exceeding 7,000 hectares, and the transition toward intensive farming methods which significantly raise tree density per hectare. The region counts over 1.7 million olive trees, with one million currently in production. To boost this sector, 140,000 new seedlings are being planted under a national program, supported by infrastructure improvements like electricity and access roads. Known for high quality, olive oil from areas such as Zeribet El Oued, Aïn Naga, and Sidi Okba continues to establish a strong presence in the national market.
