Energy Infrastructure Expansion: Algeria Focuses on Security and Stability

During the discussion of the 2027 draft finance bill, Energy and Renewable Energies Minister Mourad Adjal highlighted the sector's vital role in national development. The strategy prioritizes the modernization of energy infrastructure, with a specific focus on southern and remote regions. Amid global geopolitical tensions and market instability, the Minister emphasized the need to ensure domestic energy security by promoting renewable energy sources and improving consumption efficiency. The minister reported key achievements, including a 99% electricity access rate for over 12.8 million customers and a gas connection rate of nearly 80% for 8.7 million customers. These advancements successfully maintained the stability and continuity of power supply throughout the summer of 2026, despite record-breaking temperatures and wildfires that drove significant spikes in consumption.
